Mental health counselors have new and growing opportunities to work with older adults in an integrated health care setting as a result of the significant growth in the number of older adults, the growing recognition of the benefits of approaches to patient-centered care that consider biological, psychological and social processes, and the expansion of the number and type of integrated health care models. Collaborative integrative teams, staffed with medical personnel and mental health counselors, can provide comprehensive patient-centered care that treats patients in a holistic manner, which can improve outcomes and quality of life. This webinar will teach you about the growing opportunities to be a part of an integrated health care team that addresses the needs of older adults and the growing number and type of integrated health care models. Additionally, you will learn how to avoid ethical pitfalls that could occur when taking care of the older population in integrated health care settings. By learning about these opportunities and challenges, the mental health counselor will be better prepared to work effectively as part of an integrated health care team with this growing population.
