I am honored to extend an invitation to you to join American Mental Health Counselors Association’s elite delegation on a professional exchange in South Africa. The purpose of the delegation is to meet with our South African counterparts to learn about the challenges and advances in mental health care delivery at all levels in South Africa. As President of the American Mental Health Counselors Association, I am honored to have been selected to lead this delegation and invite you to join me in this unique opportunity.

The goals of the delegation and initial topics of discussion for the meetings and site visits have been preliminarily identified as the following:

· Comprehensive overview on South Africa’s post-apartheid life and mental health policy

· How South Africa integrate’s mental health into their healthcare system

· Ongoing research on mental healthcare, trauma and neuroscience, as influenced by the history of apartheid

· The HIV Crisis and Intersection of Mental Health and HIV/AIDS

· Addiction and Substance abuse

· Issues of violence and terrorism and their relation to mental health care services

Delegates will participate in professional meetings and site visits each day; the interests and composition of the team will determine the final meetings and topics for discussion. Please see the attached Preliminary Schedule of Activities.

The estimated cost per delegation member is $3,995. This cost includes group ground transportation (excluding airport transfers), meeting planning, accommodations in double-occupancy rooms, most meals, admission to cultural activities, gratuities, and essentially all other costs associated with participation.

For those interested in having a guest join you in South Africa during the professional delegation, Professionals Abroad will arrange a guest program offering accommodation, transfers (excluding airport transfers), cultural activities, gratuities, and dinners with the delegates.

This delegation will convene in Cape Town, South Africa on February 19, 2018 and will return to the United States on February 25, 2018. In country travel arrangements will be arranged through our cooperation with Professionals Abroad, a division of Academic Travel Abroad.
