Catch You on the Flip Side: A Farewell Message

April Krowel, MA
Chair, Graduate Student Committee, 2013-2014

I would like to thank AMHCA’s Graduate Student Committee (GSC) members for their enthusiasm and dedication to the committee and the students’ voices they represent. This committee cannot function without its members, so I would like to personally thank each person who served on the committee this year:

  • Kristen Lister, LPC, NCC, Chair-Elect
  • Jennifer Hike, Secretary
  • Christina Javete, Southern Region Liaison
  • Ela Kelly, Midwest Region Liaison
  • Jade Letourneau, Western Region Liaison
  • Holly Sawyer, PhD, North Atlantic Region Liaison
  • Karen Griner, LMHC, NCC, GSC Faculty Advisor

My year as GSC chair provided me with invaluable experience in leadership and professional development, and the support of my committee members also made it a fun experience. I am turning over the position of chair to Kristen Lister, who has been assisting me throughout the past year as chair-elect.

Kristen is currently a doctoral student in Counselor Education at Idaho State University, where she also received her Master of Counseling with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling. She is a licensed professional counselor and has experience working in community mental health, college, and school settings. Her research interests include professional advocacy, counselor identity, and multicultural issues in teaching and counseling.

She has enthusiastically been serving the profession for a number of years. As a master’s student, Kristen started as a membership chair for her school’s chapter of Chi Sigma Iota. She later became involved in her state chapter of AMHCA, and is now finishing her term as president of the Idaho Mental Health Counselors Association (IMHCA).

She started working with AMHCA’s Graduate Student Committee a couple of years ago as secretary, and stepped into the chair-elect position last year. Kristen is looking forward to continuing her work with IMHCA, and moving into her new role as chair of the GSC this year, a position that runs from Aug. 1 through the end of July 2015.

Join AMHCA’s Graduate Student Committee!

THREE positions on the 2014-2015 GSC are open beginning in August:

  • North Atlantic Region liaison,
  • Midwest Regionliaison, and
  • Chair-elect.

We invite any student who would like to be a member of the committee to please contact Kristen via our student Facebook page. Thank you for allowing me to serve as chair and to be a voice for graduate students.

Keep up with GSC activities and stay in touch with clinical mental health counseling peers through AMHCA’s graduate students Facebook page.
