About Membership

A clinical membership certifies that they meet the following standards: hold at least a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in counseling services or a related area that covers the basic principles of mental health counseling; work or are actively seeking to work in a setting where time is spent in direct delivery of counseling services; and are licensed/certified in their state or hold appropriate clinical mental health counseling credentials.

Clinical and regular members and those retired from regular memberships are voting members.

Affiliated Chapter Membership

AMHCA works closely with our affiliated chapters to further the profession and grow as organizations that represent clinical mental health counselors in professional and educational needs. Some affiliated chapters participate in a unified dues program in which you can join both AMHCA and the chapter and save money on both memberships. Dues

The AMHCA Joint Dues program is available for both Clinical and Professional members and those wanting to become Clinical or Professional members. Both AMHCA and the affiliated chapter discount our dues in order to save the member money. 

The AMHCA portion of a unified dues Clinical or Professional membership is $147. In addition to this the member pays a fee to the affiliated chapter. See the list below of participating chapters and their fees.

About Membership

Any new masters or doctoral graduate within their first 2 years of supervised practice since graduation may receive student membership rates. Proof of graduation date may be required. Eligible for an annual membership for up to 2 years in this category.

This is a non-voting membership type.

About Membership

Any student enrolled in an accredited graduate program for half time or more in the areas of human development shall be eligible to become a student member of the association. Eligible to be in this membership category for 3 years only. Paid membership comes with free liability insurance. Exceptions of the 3-year time limit can be made upon receipt of additional verification from the student’s major advisor.
