On Thursday 10-17-2019 the Michigan Legislature unanimously passed our bill to protect our 10,000 licensed counselors.
HB4325 will codify diagnosis and several other issues included in our Scope of Practice.
This law negates the administrative rules changes recommened by Licensing and Reulatory Affairs (LARA) for implementation of technical changes to signifantly reduce our scope of practice including removing diagnosis. These changes would have gone into effect in November.
This is a fantastic moment Michgan Counselors and hope it helps licensing issues across the country.
MMHCA is very proud to have created this legislation and even prouder to have brought forward LLPC/LPC's by the thousnads to advocate for the profession. The Michigan Legislature has never seen such a more effective and powerful advocacy both in terms of numbers and mission clarity. Hence the unanimous vote!
The Governor will sign this legislation into law in the next couple of weeks. We are ready to celebrate this awesome accomplishment!
Wait until everyone sees how we will capitalize on this success to move our mission of a healthier and more accesible mental health advocay for both mental health professionals and consumers.
