A Mental Health Access Improvement Roadmap: AMHCA Position Paper
The AMHCA Board of Directors lays out their policy recommendations Affordable Care Act expansion and mental health policy reform in our newly released position paper.
Our goal is that all Americans will no longer separate mental health from physical health when it comes to access to care or quality of treatment. The next generation must grow up knowing that mental health is a key component of overall health and there is no shame, stigma, or barriers to seeking out care.Clinical Mental Health Counselors stand ready to engage in a constructive and thoughtful dialogue to ensure the success of future reform efforts. We look forward to continued collaboration on these important issues.
The CLIPER Plan: AMHCA's Portability Initiatives
AMHCA’s Interstate Portability Task Force worked closely on the proposal with the AMHCA Board of Directors over the last six months. The task force members said the leadership and collaboration that went into the effort demonstrates the critical importance for portability of licensure through both endorsement and reciprocity.
The plan integrates two recent licensure portability initiatives developed over the last year to bring about uniformity in portability through endorsement and/or reciprocity developed respectively by the American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB) and the Council of State Governments (CSG). Both approaches are mutually compatible.
