Recognizing & Responding to Child Abuse & Neglect
with Erica K. Smith, MSW, LCSW

As mental health professionals we have a commitment to keeping those we serve safe. Whether we work with children, teens, or adults - knowing how to recognize the signs of abuse is a critical piece of our ethical obligations. Knowing how to respond and support our clients and families through challenging times is also a role we are tasked with. In this presentation, we will cover some of the ways we can identify and respond to signs of abuse, all while supporting clients through challenging times.

Objectives:
- To identify the behavioral and physical indicators of 4 legally recognized types of child neglect and abuse
- To identify which groups of children may be at higher risk of experiencing child neglect and/or abuse
- To identify how to respond appropriately to evidence of child abuse and/or neglect
- To identify solutions that can reduce the Impact of COVID on child abuse and neglect
