G. Michael Pilcher, PhD, LMHC [FL], MCAP [FL], LPC/MHSP [TN], LADAC [TN], LPC [VA], CCFC, ICADC, SAP

I have maintained an active practice of pastoral, clinical, and forensic counseling along with service to my profession since 2001. Throughout my career, I have striven to provide quality education, counseling, and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and the community. In turn, I was the recipient of the prestigious International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors Outstanding Addictions/Offender Professional Award, presented at the 2009 American Counseling Association convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Further, I have assisted the clinical mental health counseling profession as treasurer (2017-2019), president (2019-2020), and past president (2020-2021) for the Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association which culminated in the association’s Outstanding Service & Leadership Award (2020) along with being conferred the AMHCA Diplomate in Advanced Clinical Mental Health Counseling Practice.

Moreover, I currently serve on the FMHCA Government Relations Committee and am a member of the AMHCA Interstate Portability Task Force. I have presented nationally on topics such as Veracity in Forensic Evaluation & Report Writing, Complex Child Custody and Support Issues in Litigation, Sexual Development Norms for Children and Adolescents, and How to Respond to the Ominous Subpoena. I also enjoy appointments as editorial board member of the Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment & Trauma, and editorial board member of the Journal of Family Trauma, Child Custody & Child Development (formerly the Journal of Child Custody).

A large part for seeking the position of Treasurer involves my passion for the business of counseling. After 12 years in a lucrative and sustainable private practice, I was established as the first franchisee of Thriveworks in 2013, opening for business January of 2014, and becoming financially solvent and profitable within several weeks of operation. Over the next seven years, my team and I built from scratch our three clinic locations which flourished into a multi-million dollar enterprise. I successfully exited as Owner/CEO after acquisition in November of 2020.

Currently, in solo practice once again, I approach therapy from a values-based perspective, guiding my patients to investigate and solidify their core values so that they are empowered to rebuild their lives by taking the necessary steps to embody these beliefs. While I appreciate serving diverse populations, I offer a unique focus in my clinical practice with an integrated perspective and approach for those, or their loved ones, who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D), latent autoimmune diabetes of adulthood (LADA), or maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY). I am equipped to provide these patients with essential, up to date, clinical information and coaching so that they can thrive with T1D, LADA, or MODY. As a partner in their path to wellness, I come alongside the patient (and their medical team if one is in place) to help them adjust, cope, and manage the condition so they can get back to living well.

If I am honored and entrusted with this position, I will leverage my experience to advance the mission, goals, and objectives of this great professional body and national organization.
