Alexandria, VA - December 2, 2009 - To give mental health counselors greater exposure to those seeking mental health care, the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) has partnered with Psychology Today and the Therapy Directory. With more than 20,000 listings and priority placement in Google and other online searches, the Therapy Directory is a high-profile marketing tool for mental health counselors. "This beneficial relationship will provide our members with a new way to have an effective online presence," said AMHCA president Linda Barclay, PhD, LPCC/S, LICDC, NCC.
The client-focused directory allows users to search by state (or Canadian province), by zip code, or by selecting from a wide variety of specialty options such as depression, grief/loss, relationship issues, eating disorders, psychosis, impulse control disorders, or parenting. The advanced search function allows further specific criteria, such as average session cost, religious orientation, or language spoken other than English.
AMHCA members will be able to register for a professional listing in the directory at no charge for the first six months. The listing will include the members photo, contact information, credentials and qualifications, specialty areas, treatment preferences, client focus, and a brief introduction written by the therapist. Pop-up information boxes will offer explanations of credentials and treatment preferences. (AMHCA members who already have a listing in the Therapy Directory will not be eligible for this six-month introductory program.)
"AMHCA is here to help members meet the challenges of running their practices, including marketing. We also strive to raise the profile of the mental health counseling profession, and presence in a prominent directory will contribute to that effort," said W. Mark Hamilton, Ph.D., AMHCA's executive director and CEO.
The new partnership with Psychology Today also will provide AMHCA members with a free trial issue of the magazine and 46% savings on subscriptions.
