Requirements:

Initial Qualifications
Education:
Master's 60 semester credit hours or 80 quarter credit hours, or doctoral degree; 10 courses covering 10 specified content area requirements, plus electives in approved topics; practicum (100 hours total, including 40 direct ct contact hrs OR peer/roleplay and 25 hrs supervision of which 10 must be individual, 5 must be group) and internship (600 hours total, including 240 direct ct contact hrs and 45 hrs supervision, of which 15 must be individual and 15 must be group).
Practical Experience, Amount: 3,360 hours in 2+yrs but less than 8yrs, including 960 hrs direct client contact (individual, couple/family, group)
Practical Experience, Qualifications: No more than than 350 hrs may be in group (i.e. 610 hrs minimum of ind/couple/family direct ct contact); all practical experience must be in regulated or regulation-exempt mental health, general health, or educational institutions; no group or private practice allowed.
Supervision: 130 hrs supervision, of which 75 must be individual; at least 1 hr supervision per 16 ct contact hours; pro-rated supervision for part time practice not to be below 1hr supervision per 2 week period.
Supervision, qualifications: Of total supervision (both pre- and post-graduate), some must be from an LMHC supervisor: before July 1, 2017: 50 hrs; after July 1, 2017: 75 hrs. Supervisors must be LMHC, LICSW, LMFT, psychologist w/ Health Services Provider Certification, psychiatrist, or psychiatric RN.
Exam: NCMHCE
Additional: Two professional references (using official form in license application), must be two most recent clinical supervisors.

Ongoing Qualifications
Continuing education: 
30 contact hours per 2-year license term; first term pro-rated [cite]. Must be MAMHCA or NBCC approved [cite]. Only 50% may be home study or distance learning, at least 50% must be in-person; live tele-seminars or webinars are considered in-person, while re-broadcasts are considered not to be in-person.
