Home Study: Continuous Cloud: Prolonged Grief in Times of Loss

12-01-2022 17:28

**Previously Recorded on 04/22/2022 - Not a Live Event**

This 60-minute education session will be informative of the concept of complicated grief also known as prolonged grief, and its history briefly, and its manifestations behaviorally and neurobiologically. According to the bereavement research, some individuals are at high risk for the development of complicated grief although the majority of the bereaved is adaptive to the loss of loved ones (e.g., a spouse) over time. Therefore, it is critical to identify the risk factors as well as manifestations of complicated grief to help prevent a severe form of grief such as complicated grief while clinicians help promote adaptive coping to the loss. In addition, attendees will identify helpful interventions, including creative art therapy, to support such coping and apply the learned knowledge from the session by co-constructing an individualized plan for their own use in current times such as the pandemic.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will explore the manifestation (pre-pandemic vs. pandemic) of prolonged grief in current times behaviorally and neuro-biologically.
2. Attendees will identify helpful interventions to support mourning as adaptive coping in both client and themselves.
3. Attendees will co-construct an individualized plan to integrate the learned information into practice.
