Home Study: Leading Through a Reflective and Relational Lens

The AMHCA Spring Leadership Series will explore how to be an effective leader in the behavioral health field and the importance of using an equity lens while leading others. The series will provide practical tools and strategies that a leader can employ to foster a more relational and inclusive work culture during these turbulent and unprecedented times. Participants will take a deep look at the impacts of race, power, and privilege and how they as leaders can dismantle systemic barriers that get in the way of recruiting and retaining key talent.


Objectives:
- Participants will explore the impacts of race, power, and privilege in the workplace and their responsibility to attend to this as a leader.
- Participants will learn strategies to dismantle systemic barriers to foster a culture of inclusion.
- Participants will learn how to power with v. power over their direct reports through a lens of reflective supervision, relationality and cultural responsiveness.

Donna L. Wilson, Ph.D., LPC is currently the Director of Operations & Community Engagement for Child and Family Services at the Mental Health Center of Denver who ensures a seamless operational structure and maximizes strategic community impact for Child and Family Services. She is also the Founder and Chief Equity Officer of Equity Options Consulting, LLC.


Dr. Wilson has more than 29 years of progressive experience in human services, which includes delving executive leadership to multi-faceted and complex projects and extensive experience in protective services throughout the lifespan, ranging from birth to end of life. Her areas of expertise include data-informed decision making; data collection and analysis; diversity, equity, and inclusion; cultural competence and responsiveness; clinical assessment and evaluation; child abuse prevention; safety, risk and family assessment; child protection therapy; adult protective services; policy development and evaluation; organizational and workforce development.

Dr. Wilson is also a curriculum developer, and a qualitative researcher. Her work has been published in two peer-reviewed journals and a book chapter. She serves as a local and national consultant and trainer and is a board member for the WINGS Foundation, Inc.
Dr. Wilson received her Bachelor of Science from Tuskegee University, and both her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Colorado of Denver.

 

AMHCA will provide 1.0 CE total after viewing and completing the accompanying quiz with a passing grade (80% or higher). American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) has been approved to provide continuing education by the National Board for Certified Counselors and the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.
