PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I have earned a Ph.D. degree in the CACREP-accredited program in counseling from the George Washington University. Through this education and clinical training, I am equipped for the five different professional roles, including counseling, supervision, teaching, research and scholarship, and advocacy and leadership. In addition, I am a licensed professional counselor in DC and Pennsylvania, certified rehabilitation counselor, national certified counselor, board-certified telemental health counselor, and Biofeedback Certified International Alliance’s board-certified neurofeedback practitioner. Currently, I work at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) as a counselor educator and assistant director of a CACREPaccredited counseling program. As a part of my programmatic responsibilities, I am concerned with coordinating program evaluation and accreditation as a CACREP liaison for the counseling program. Furthermore, I am serving as a primary faculty lead for Rams for Recovery, a collegiate recovery program at TJU and a primary chapter faculty advisor for a local chapter of Chi Sigma Iota. In addition to the aforementioned professional roles, I am working on several research projects (e.g., culturally responsive research mentorship, lived experiences through photovoice among college students in recovery from prescription drug use, and difficulty navigating and accessing mental health care among BIPOC individuals) with my counselor educator colleagues and counseling students. Moreover, I enjoy writing. Last year, I wrote a textbook titled “neurobiology of stress-informed counseling” and had it published.

I have been a member of AMHCA since 2018. Also, Dr. Thomas Field, former chair of the Neuroscience Taskforce within the organization, extended an invitation for me to join the Taskforce. Beginning in 2021, I have served as one of co-chairs for the taskforce. Alongside the other co-chairs, I enjoyed preparing for and hosting a virtual symposium in 2022 that focused on the incorporation of neuroscience and trauma into mental health counseling.
