PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dr. Smith has professional counseling experience in various settings to include private practice, public education, corrections, community counseling and in higher education as an adjunct professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She has been the owner and principal therapist of BSmith Consulting Group, LLC since 2009. Currently, Dr. Smith is serving on the AMHCA Committee of Advancement for Clinical Practice. In 2016, she was AMHCA’s delegate at the 32nd Annual Rosalynn Carter Symposium on Mental Health Policy. The symposium included leaders from across the country focusing on the three main topics: (1) Managing Population Health & Building Cultures of Wellness, (2) The Current State of Integration Efforts and, (3) Behavioral Health’s Role in Population Health. Her review of the symposium was published in the Connections, AMHCA’s Blog.
With over 23 years of experience, Dr. Beverly Smith has served the counseling profession while being an active member of various organizations. Her leadership roles have included being a local Chapter President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as well as Chapter President and President-Elect of the Fulton School Counselor Association. She has been a peer reviewer of proposals for the 30th & 31st National Youth-At-Risk Conference as well as the 21st National Conference on Child Abuse & Neglect. Additionally, Dr. Smith has served on the American Counselor Association Committee for Research & Knowledge. She is a member of the LPCA of GA, Chi Sigma Iota, and the Florida Mental Health Counselor Association. Dr. Beverly has served as a volunteer for the Red Cross since 2009 in the area of Disaster Mental Health and as a Psychological First Aid Instructor. In 2015, she received acceptance for the inaugural Georgia Autism Assessment Program which was a collaboration between the Emory Autism Center, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Emory School of Medicine and the Georgia Psychological Association’s Council on Child, Family, and Assessment. Also, Dr. Smith has served as a Chaplain (Spiritual Health Clinician) with Emory Hospital.

Dr. Smith’s goals would be to promote the programs, training sessions, and special meetings as well as to conduct chapter charter reviews and administration. She will write articles promoting Clinical Mental Health Counseling awareness & practice. Additionally, Dr. Smith’s goals include (1) developing a virtual training program for the resiliency of Professional Clinical Counselors, (2) creating a clinical cultural competency training program, and (3) promoting Clinical Mental Health Counseling as a critical component of integrative health from a systems perspective with sponsorship.
Dr. Smith has conducted numerous presentations and has received several awards for leadership and service to the profession as well as for her service in the community. Some of her awards have included Excellence in Leadership Award, President’s Award, Outstanding Service Award, Lay Leader of the Year Award, Enduring Commitment to Public Service, and Unsung Hero Award.
